May 16, 2007
When Gene made plans to attend the 2007 National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Awards Banquet in Salisbury, NC this spring, he didn’t need to book airline reservations. No Sireeeee.
It was time to load up the Roadtrek and head out on the highway. First stop----Blue Ridge Highway in North Carolina. Breakfast in Lake Lure, NC, and a full afternoon at Linville Falls. Breathtaking!

FSU Defense Dominates First Scrimage-No Surprise Here
Bobby Bowden begins his 30th season at Florida State this season. The “winningest” coach in major college football history has seen more than a few first scrimmages. What he saw Wednesday night didn’t surprise him. His quarterbacks were missing receivers, the receivers were getting knocked off routes, and the kickers just couldn’t put it through the uprights. Horror of horrors there were two “wide-rights” and a “wide-left”.

But that’s what you just might expect in a first scrimmage.

That a dominating two and half hours of defensive football. The defense won round one. Now can the offense get ready for Miami? Two weeks will tell.

Here’s Bobby’s comments:

Buc's Camp Completes First Week
Buccaneers Camp Day 7

The Buccaneers wrapped up one week of pre -season camp Thursday.

So far, so good.

Although Jon Gruden refused to compare this seasons camp to previous seasons, he told reporters after Thursday morning’s session that he felt good about this years team and its’ first week of work.

Gruden said the team was making strides. He said the offensive line was knocking people off the ball. Rookies Alex Smith(TE from Stanford), and Cadillac Williams(RB from Auburn) continue to catch the coaches eye.

Now here’s more video from camp.

NOTE: Depth Charts for the Buccaneers, as well as pre-season opponents Tennessee, and Jacksonville are now posted on www.genedeckerhoff.com. Click “Schedules” and download free.

Buccaneers Camp Day 4
The first day of August was a hot one, and things heated up on the practice fields at Walt Disney World Wide World of Sports. Day four of the 2005 Buccaneers pre-season camp had a little good, a little bad, and a little ugly. But then that’s expected early in camp, particularly on the second day of workouts in full pads.

The good was the way the Bucs offense attacked in the “red-zone”, especially the running of Carnell Williams and Michael Pittman I like the “Rocket Formation” which features Pittman and Williams in the backfield out of the “pro set’.

The bad was turnovers. Earnest Graham…..listed third on the depth chart at tailback laid a few on the ground. Head Coach Jon Gruden was not pleased.

The ugly was special teams practice in the afternoon. That will continue to be a work in progress. Kickers Matt Bryant and Todd France did make 7 of 8 field goals in the morning session.

Here are some of the sights and sounds of Day 4:
